Cardio equipment
Treadmills, indoor bikes, rowing machines and cross-trainers have different controls and movement patterns. Ask staff to demonstrate starting, stopping and any emergency-stop system. Read the machine’s instructions rather than assuming all models operate alike.
Strength machines
Many machines use a pin to select resistance and adjustable seats or pads. The machine determines part of the movement path, but the adjustment still matters. Ask how to set it for your body and how to use it safely. Do not copy another person’s settings.
Cables and free weights
Cable stations may have adjustable pulleys and interchangeable attachments. Free-weight areas include dumbbells, barbells and benches. These areas require attention to setup, clear space and returning equipment. Get a demonstration before using an unfamiliar attachment or rack.
Learn one area at a time
You do not need to know every station immediately. Ask for an induction and note the names of equipment you have learned to use. Your personal training choices should come from your goals and qualified guidance, rather than whatever machine is free.
