Before you leave
Check opening hours and whether you need to book an induction. Pack comfortable clothes, clean training shoes, water and any access pass the gym requires. Ask about lockers and towels rather than buying a long list of accessories before you know the rules.
Make the first visit an introduction
Tell reception you are new and ask for a tour. Locate the changing area, drinking water, exits and staff desk. Ask which spaces are for stretching, free weights and machines. Understanding the layout is a useful outcome for your first visit.
Ask for a demonstration
Equipment that looks familiar may work differently between manufacturers. Ask a qualified staff member to explain the adjustment points, controls and how to finish safely. A video on your phone cannot check whether a machine fits you. You do not have to use every machine on day one.
Leave with a clear next step
Write down what you learned and any questions that remain. Pick a realistic time for your next visit. Avoid judging the day by how much weight you lifted or how tired you feel: learning how to use the space is progress. If you need a personal exercise plan, arrange qualified guidance.
